Do I need Leather Prep and Deglazer?Updated 2 months ago

We highly suggest you use some prep to ensure your project lasts and doesn't crack over time on leather items. It is required to get good adhesion of the dyes and paints. We suggest our Leather Preparer and Deglazer, but some areas do not readily offer it.

Here are alternative methods to prepare your leather item for painting or dyeing. One option is to use a product that contains acetone. However, it's crucial to proceed cautiously when using acetone-based products, as they can be harsh and potentially damage the leather surface if not used carefully. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first and use sparingly.

Alternatively, you can use fine-grit sandpaper, which we provide, to lightly sand the leather's surface. This method helps remove the finish and create a suitable surface for the paint or dye. After sanding, it's essential to thoroughly clean the surface of any dust or debris to ensure a clean, smooth base for your work.

Regardless of your chosen method, the goal is to achieve a clean and receptive surface on your leather item to ensure the best possible outcome for your project. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact our customer support.
